Television was the go-to source of entertainment for a long period of time, but in the last couple of years, a huge shift in the market is slowly pushing television to the side. The internet and online streaming services have become more accessible and easier ways for consumers to get their daily dose of entertainment. Services like Netflix, Amazon Prime, YouTube and many more are offering easy access to their movies and TV shows library so you can watch any video on demand.
Now this doesn’t mean that television as we know it today will die out. On the contrary, television companies have already started to follow market trends and are adjusting their business models accordingly. With so many trends to follow, we have decided to put together a list of the most probable directions the future of television is heading.
More and more video content
As we see the rise of the streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime, we are now aware that the original content is still the most important way of connecting with the audience. Exclusive TV shows and movies make more revenue for their streaming services than anything else. If television networks want to keep their audience on their channel, then they will have to offer similar exclusive content.
High production level, top actors, and an intriguing drama will always attract curious viewers. Netflix alone invested several billion dollars in such projects and their net worth just keeps growing. Don’t be shocked if television follows in these footsteps. One thing is for sure, as long as cable television and streaming services are fighting over consumers, we will be getting premium video content from both sides.
Expanding the reach
Connectivity is now more important than ever. Because we have a lot of options to choose from, companies will do anything to get us to use their service. This means that they will do everything possible to expand their reach even to the most remote places. The more people have the option to connect to their service the higher probability for them is to do so.
This includes everything from an individual TV antenna installation to expanding their services to the other side of the planet. This was seen by the recent expansion of Netflix services in the Europe and other non-American countries. Of course, the TV networks have done this previously by satellite services, but in order to adjust to the recent trends, they will need to change their approach a bit.
Video content on our smartphones
Expansion of smartphones into our everyday lives has made a significant impact on the television. We are no longer bound to the living room couch and TV if we want to watch our favorite TV show or movie, we can just watch it on the go on our smartphones and tablets. Even though the smartphones are still in the early stages of development and their full potential is yet to be shown, we can see a clear path they are going on.
Smartphones are not just a source of video entertainment they are expanding their use even on the video games market. More and more television networks are making phone applications to deliver the latest news, TV shows right to your phones. This form of easy-access entertainment is on the rise and we will see it even more in the next couple of years.
And that’s it from us. As you can see television will probably change a lot in the near future. In fact, we are seeing transitions, even now, but as we said this doesn’t mean that the television as we know it now will disappear. It will only adjust to the trends of the market and hopefully, this will only benefit us, the consumers.
