Significance of Panda

Panda was introduced by Google in 2011 with the purpose of wiping out low quality content from World Wide Web. Prior to introduction of Panda, Google ranked web pages based on high volume content and not in accordance with quality. Hence, content creators started stuffing keywords into contents unnecessarily. Large volume content coupled with excess keyword usage became a norm for Internet contents. With this the actually well written pages started suffering and reduced to second or third category.

Panda has stopped this process of optimization and has ensured that websites with low quality content do not furnish in SERP (search engine result pages). Panda in its first update removed 11 percent of search results, which gradually reduced in its subsequent editions. The success of Panda played a positive role in reducing the number of content organizations and instead helped companies that put up genuine good quality content on Internet. In its much later version, Panda 4.1, this application’s impacting result varied between 3 – 5% of search enquiries.

Here it needs to be said that though Panda’s primary objective was removal of bad content from World Wide Web, it was instrumental in promoting medium and small websites famous for their high quality writings. This encouraged the lesser known companies to compete successfully against the more powerful and established websites. Competing against large websites, even at a local level could be tough. Working of Panda

Creating longer contents – The current trend is to create long contents. These add value to websites as readers are engaged for longer time prompting more interaction. Longer contents have also been found to generate more visitors’ traffic thereby increasing ROI (return on investment) factor.

Penalising bad-user experience – Bad user experience is penalised by Panda. If any content is found uninformative or un-engaging it suggests immediate action by Panda through its removal.

Stale content – Content that fails to create any interest among readers is summarily removed by Panda.

Keyword stuffing – There are contents that are still stuffed with keywords. Though contents with keyword stuffing are removed outright, instances do arise from time to time.

Plagiarism – This is a perennial issue with websites, and efforts of Google or Panda in penalizing these still remain.

Ways to avoid Panda

Content is king

The conventional method still holds relevance even to this date. Good quality content is still respected by search engines and Panda. Attempt should be made to create contents that are original, interesting, and informative. A highly researched content is expected to draw in high volume of readers and offers a creditable user experience. Interest is generated if contents are based on trendy topics. These would not only attract regular visitors but even new visitors.

To make content interesting it is desirable to be integrated with pictures, images, or graphical representations. An illustrative writing is natural to convince readers more easily and convincingly.
