6 Fast, Fun Must-Watch Car Chase Scenes

Everybody loves a good car chase. What’s not to love about screeching tires speeding through the streets with reckless abandon? While you can catch some pretty epic ones on the news and on YouTube car chase channels, there’s nothing quite like the scenes from the movies.

There are a lot of lists out there that feature just the classics, and while this list includes some of those as well, it also has some fun and unusual chase scenes. Fasten your seat belt and get ready for some high-speed fun!

“Bullit”

You will find the chase scene from this 1968 classic on just about every car chase list, so I thought I’d pay homage to this classic and put it in the number one spot.

A San Francisco police officer in a 1968 Ford Mustang GT (Steve McQueen) chases down an evil henchman in a 1968 Dodge Charger R/T.

While some car experts believe the Dodge Charger switches during the scene, we still recommend it as a must-watch movie car chase.

“Goldeneye”

OK, so maybe it’s not a car chase per se, but could I leave out a high-speed chase with a tank? Didn’t think so!

In Pierce Brosnan’s first appearance as James Bond, 007 races through streets of St. Petersburg (actually a set in Leavesden) in a tank to try and find his female counterpart.

The scene which features just as much adrenaline as destruction, actually took four weeks to film.

“Drive”

While we may be more used to seeing Ryan Gosling in romantic comedies versus the silent, stoic type, “Drive” gave us many memorable high-octane scenes.

Gosling plays a getaway driver and dodges the police as he expertly navigates the streets of Downtown Los Angeles. While the film is low on dialogue, it’s action-packed and perfect for adrenaline junkies and car enthusiasts.

There are a number of exciting chase scenes in this film, but here’s a clip from the opening sequence.

“Back to the Future Part II”

Another one that may make car chase purists shake their heads, we wanted to include this scene because it’s a little different.

Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) tries to escape on his hoverboard while being chased by Biff (Thomas F. Wilson) in a 1946 Ford Super Deluxe.

Thank goodness Doc (Christopher Lloyd) is nearby with his Delorean (spoiler alert) since Marty’s hoverboard is no match for Biff’s classic, speedy car.

“The Fast and the Furious” (Take Your Pick)

With a franchise full of action and tricked out cars, it’s hard to pick just one chase scene from the “Furious” movies.

We’ll go the classic route and share this one from the original, since after all, this is the film that started it all.

“The Italian Job”

Although the remake was also lots of fun and featured some entertaining high-speed scenes, I’m talking about the original film here.

The 1969 film stars Michael Caine and features a group of gold thieves racing through the streets of Italy in Mini Coopers. The fun in this scene, however, isn’t just the high speeds, but the fact that they drive through stairwells, through an arcade, down a rooftop, and more!

If you haven’t seen the original, go ahead and watch it, and then follow that up with the 2003 version for even more high-speed fun.
