How to Create a Torrent File Successfully?
First off, when you hear the word “BitTorrent“, the words that start circulating in your mind may include: Illegal, Pirated content, Malwares, Viruses, and the list goes on. But, let me tell you, the whole notion of torrent or P2P file sharing itself is not illegal. The BitTorrent platform is totally legit. But, how this platform is utilized is a whole another debate and we can save that for our next topic. But for now, I’m going to teach you how you can create a torrent file in some simple steps.
It’s time to give back to the community!
By now, you would have downloaded hundreds of GB’s of data from torrents. Without a doubt, it’s an awesome platform to share files with other internet users in a convenient and efficient manner. That’s the main reason why people prefer downloading from torrents. But it’s time for you to become that one uploader, from whom thousands of other torrent users can benefit from.
So, let’s start by simply explaining to you step by step how you can create torrent files:
1: Download uTorrent
First of all, you need a torrent client to get started with the process. Now, there are a lot of methods that you can use to create a torrent file, but I am using a method which I personally use to create torrent files. So, first download and install uTorrent on your device and on the File menu select Create New Torrent:
Quick Tip: You can simply press CTRL+N to start the process.
2: Configure Your Torrent File:
Now, you have to select which file you want to share with your fellow torrenteers. Simply explore the directory where the file you want to share is located. Then Simply select the file you want to add.
Once you’ve added the file, there are some additional fields available like Trackers. By default, uTorrent have OpenBitTorrent and PublicBitTorrent trackers in place for you. Both of these trackers are free and these sites request you to not distribute copyrighted content- which you shouldn’t anyway. Keep in mind that both the site trackers mentioned does not offer the indexing feature, so other users won’t be able to download or share the torrent file which you have created.
If you want to distribute your file with a wide spectrum of people, then you better submit your torrent files to famous torrent indexing websites and use that website as a tracker instead.
3: Add any additional information:
You have the option to add a comment for the torrent if you want to. Ignore the piece size and let it be at the auto-detect settings unless you are an advanced user and know what you’re doing. Once you’re done with filling all the required areas, click on the “Create” button to create your torrent. You may be prompted as to where to save and what to call the .torrent file, so fill in the information.
4: You’ve created the torrent file and it’s ready for seeding:
Now that you’ve created your very own torrent files, it’s ready for seeding. If you do not seed your torrent files, it’s of no use because no one will download it.
5: Share your torrent files:
If you are making a torrent file so that you can share it with a friend or a group of friends, then send that file directly to them only. But, if you want to share it with the public, then you better get it listed on a torrent download website. Once you are on a torrent website, you will find a link to add or upload a new torrent, so fill in the required information and simply submit that file. You would probably have to register for that site if you have not already. Once people start downloading your torrent file from that site, the number of seeders will increase. Once you’ve got enough seeders, and your torrent health is stable, you can now stop seeding because now your torrent file is shared by others on the network.
